The Challenge

For the dark comedy anthology Immoral Compass, we faced a logistical marathon: capturing 20 episodes in two weeks during a global pandemic. Beyond the pace and high-profile talent like Bill Burr and Vince Vaughn, the series required a unique technical approach to accommodate Quibi’s dual-format platform. We had to shoot for both portrait and landscape aspect ratios simultaneously, necessitating complex on-set monitoring and a precise post-production pan-and-scan workflow.

The Execution

We shot on the Sony Venice using its full 6K 3:2 sensor, which allowed us to generate custom crop overlays for both landscape and portrait outputs. To manage this on set, we used a Teradek Serv Pro to beam feeds directly to iPads, giving the crew and producers real-time visibility into both framing compositions. By prioritizing this dual-aspect protection during production, we enabled a post-production workflow that successfully transitioned the series from Quibi's mobile-first format to the traditional widescreen streaming experience on Roku.
